About IFMSA:
The International Federation of Medical Students' Associations (IFMSA) is an independent, non-governmental and non-political federation of medical students' associations around the world. The IFMSA was founded in May 1951 and is run for and by medical students on a non-profit basis. In 2007, IFMSA had 102 National Member Organizations from 100 countries on six continents and represented more than 1 million medical students worldwide. It is officially recognized as a Non Governmental Organization (NGO) within the United Nations' and recognized by the World Health Organization as the International Forum for medical students.
The IFMSA activities span the dimensions of public health, clinical and research exchange programs, reproductive health and human rights. With them it has become a major stakeholder of promoting medical students' active role in modifying their societies and working to create healthier communities. Under the IFMSA, active members are grouped into standing committees, including the Standing Committee on Public Health(SCOPH), the Standing Committee on Professional Exchange(SCOPE), the Standing Committee on human Rights and Peace(SCORP) etc. Each standing committee dedicates towards its working area, promoting country and cross-countries projects.
Active medical students around the globe gather during the IFMSA General Assembly in March and August every year, discussing global health issues and initiating countries projects. For more information on the IFMSA and its activities, please visit the IFMSA website: http://www.ifmsa.org/
