Hong Kong Medical Students' Column

AMSAHK has established its own column in the Young Post of South China Morning Post on 21st March 2005 and all medical students in Hong Kong are welcome to submit articles to the column.

1. Concerning the article

Eligibility of writers
All medical students from the University of Hong Kong and the Chinese University of Hong Kong are eligible to write for the column.

Content of the articles
Authors may write on any topic of their choice, provided that it is related to medicine. There is no specific restriction of topic within the medical field. Examples include exploration of life-threatening diseases like SARS, avian flu, debate on hot medical-ethical issues like human cloning, or even more personal accounts like your feelings about being a medical student, interesting events in the medical school etc.

Important: Writers should be reminded that the readers of the Young Post are mainly teenagers in secondary school and that the articles aim at arousing their interest in medicine.

Length
All articles should be no longer than 400 words.

Language
All articles should be written in English. Authors are encouraged to write in simple English avoiding the use of complicated medical terms. (e.g. those which need to be defined by widely used medical dictionaries)

Pictures and photos
Authors can submit photos along with the article if appropriate.

Submission of articles
The articles could be sent via e-mail to newsletter@amsahk.org, or by filling out the our submission form online. The articles to be submitted via email should be saved as a Microsoft Word document. Authors shall also submit their personal particulars including name, contact number, e-mail address, postal address together with their articles.


2. Rights and obligations of authors and AMSAHK

Notification of article publication
Authors will be informed of the date in which their articles will be published. A copy of the article will also be sent to the writer.

Role of authors
Under the constitution of AMSAHK, all medical students from the University of Hong Kong and the Chinese University of Hong Kong are considered members of AMSAHK.

Right of selection and editing by AMSAHK
AMSAHK holds the final decision of whether or not to publish the article in the column or the AMSAHK newsletter and preserves the right to edit any article submitted but only on the discretion of the author.

Privacy of the authors
AMSAHK will not, without the explicit permission of the author, disclose the author’s personal particulars and the article to any third party. The article submitted will only be published in the column and in the AMSAHK newsletter if deemed appropriate and only on the discretion of the author

Previously published articles
The writer must inform AMSAHK if his or her article has been submitted to another publication which intends to publish the article or if the article has been previously published.
