Our Parent Organisations

AMSA INTERNATIONAL

Founded in 1985, the Asian Medical Students' Association is the only representative organisation linking medical students from across Asia, the Asia-Pacific and beyond. Each year medical students from 17 Member Nations and 12 Associate Nations gather at international conferences to share knowledge and culture, undertake activities and social services together and forge international friendships.

AMSA is rapidly expanding its role to reach beyond a conference-based organization. AMSA helps organize international student exchange programs, regularly undertakes national and regional projects, provides humanitarian assistance at times of need, produces quarterly student publications and liaises with the World Health Organisation, the Association of Medical Doctors of Asia and many other international and regional medical student organisations.

AMSA International has become the embodiment of its Vision: Knowledge, Action and Friendship.

IFMSA

The International Federation of Medical Students' Associations (IFMSA) is an independent, non-profit and non-political federation of medical students' associations around the world. The IFMSA was founded in May 1951 and currently has 136 National Member Organizations from 127 countries on six continents, and represents more than 1 million medical students worldwide. It is recognized as a non-governmental organization (NGO) within the United Nations' and the International Forum for medical students by the World Health Organization.

The IFMSA activities ranges from public health, clinical and research exchange programs, to reproductive health and human rights. It promotes medical students' active role in influencing their societies by increasing awareness of public health. Under the IFMSA, active members are grouped into different standing committees serving various purposes. Each standing committee is dedicated towards its working area, promoting country and cross-country projects.

Medical students around the globe gather during the IFMSA General Assembly in March and August every year, discussing global health issues and initiating countries’ projects.

AMSAHK serves as the sole international representative of Hong Kong medical students at the International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations (IFMSA). IFMSA is one of the oldest and biggest international student bodies in the world, representing over 1.3 million medical students worldwide from over 140 National Member Organizations. The mission of IFMSA is to unite medical students worldwide to lead initiatives that impact positively the communities we serve. IFMSA represents the opinions and ideas of future health professionals in the field of global health, and works in collaboration with external partners. IFMSA builds capacity through training, projects, and exchanges opportunities, while embracing cultural diversity so as to shape a sustainable and healthy future.

Within IFMSA, we represent Hong Kong on international matters to construct student led health policies which aim towards creating a better tomorrow. We have sent public health-minded students to WHO Executive Board Meetings, the WHO West Pacific Regional Meeting, and other global conferences that enrich students beyond the classroom. We are an active member of IFMSA conferences, and consistently achieve positive recognition for the excellent quality of our activities in competitions such as the Activities Fair and Rex Crossley Awards. We also facilitated the hosting of the 2019 IFMSA Asia Pacific Regional Meeting in Hong Kong, where we welcomed hundreds of medical students from 20 countries to converse on health issues within the Asia-Pacific. With these ties, our society empowers students to fulfil their full potential by connecting them to the global stage -- many of our alumni have gone on to serve within IFMSA, even achieving the post of Regional Director of the Asia Pacific Region.
